The DIAmond Taxi Test
Booking Procedure
Having done the training with the instructor, and received clearances from the local authority searches, the candidate can now proceed to book the test. This can be done by contacting www.dia-mond.org or calling 0845 345 5151.

Examiner Contact
On completion of the booking, your allocated examiner will be in contact with you. They will ask to meet you at a suitable location at the designated date and time. At time of contact, they will ask you for the test reference number, and will confirm other details with you.
Minimum Testing Vehicle Standards
The vehicle which you wish to be tested in must meet minimum criteria. This criterion alters somewhat for the different types of test available, however, all must meet the following:-
* Comply with all relevant Laws and Statutes appertaining to the criteria set by (namely, but not restricted to) Road Traffic Acts, Construction and Use Regulations, Vehicle Use Regulations, Carriage of Passenger and Seatbelt Regulations.
* The vehicle is insured for the intended purpose, and is covered to include its use for the test.
* Has sufficient fuel to complete the test, and all other correct levels of fluids for its safe and effective operation.
* The vehicle is maintained in a suitable and satisfactory condition for the safe passage of the examiner. This includes the interior of the vehicle especially in the event of a 'controlled stop'.
Additional Criteria for Hackney & Private Hire Vehicles
These vehicles must be of 5 door design. If any communication is fitted inside the vehicle, it must be set so that it does not interfere with the test. If a meter is fitted, it must be turned on to prevent a 'hail'.
Additional Criteria for Hackney & Private Hire Vehicles Conveying Wheelchairs
As above. Ramps, Hoists etc, must be stowed or locked in appropriate positions in order to maintain safe operation of the vehicle.
Child Minders
Local Authority tests for Registered Child Minders may be tested in 'hatchback' style vehicles. Any child seats still in the vehicle must be secured by seatbelts.
Licence Procedures
Registered Child Minders are able to drive on a non GB licence if that licence is acceptable in the UK. The examiner will check the candidate's licence at the start of the test.
The Practical Test
Examiner Requirements
The examiner will expect a standard of drive from that of an experienced driver. The details of this will be given by your trainer, but in the main, an examiner will be looking for correct deportment, smooth and safe handling of the vehicle at all times, showing courtesy to others, making progress where possible, driving to the conditions and keeping within the law at all times by following all the Regulations, Laws and Statutes, as laid down in the Driving Standards Agency publications, 'The Highway Code', 'Driving The Essential Skills' (sometimes referred to as the 'Driving Manual'), and ' Know Your Traffic Signs'.
Test Content
The test will last approximately 50 minutes. Apart from the details above, the candidate will be asked to do two of five possible reversing manoeuvres, and may also be asked to simulate a 'controlled stop'.
The Result
At the end of the test, the candidate will be told the result. A successful outcome would have resulted if the candidate showed the examiner the required standard of driving and finished the test route with no more than 9 driving faults. More than 9 driving faults would be unsuccessful, and the examiner would offer a briefing in the area(s) of fault.
Successful candidates will be issued with a certificate which can be presented to the local authority.
Practical Driving Test Cancellations
If a Diamond Practical Taxi Test needs to be cancelled, a minimum of three clear working days notice (including Saturday) shall be required. This will incur a charge of £15.00. Less than the statutory three clear days notice causes the entire fee to be forfeited.
